Second Lieutenant is the lowest of all Allied CO ranks. Also known as the Butterbar. It is the lower level of the Lieutenant ranks. It is used in US, British and Canadian rank systems.

Position within the Chain of Command
Second Lieutenant is classified as OF-1 in the NATO System and Level 13 in Ewoks rank classification system. It is the lowest CO rank. The next lower rank is Sergeant Major on the NCO Path or Warrant Officer 1st Class on the CO Path. Chief Warrant Officer is the next lower rank in the Canadian rank system. The next higher rank is First Lieutenant (US) or Lieutenant (British/Canadian).
