Campaign
From Victory In Europe
A campaign in Victory in Europe is a series of battles in which the two sides, Axis and Allies, try to gain control of as many territories as possible. The campaign is equal to one season in many (sports-)leagues, though a the break inbetween two campaigns is comparably short (a few weeks).
Concept
The campaign plays an important rule in the concept of ViE. Players are not allowed to switch sides during a campaign (only after one), officers are selected for a whole campaign (and no longer), the name, logo and structure of the divisions changes only between the campaigns.
Major changes in the game rules do also (normally) only appear before a new campaign starts. One could say that after each campaign, everything is set to zero, as results from the previous campaign do not matter anymore in most aspects (though players will often make references to previous campaigns).
A campaign usually consists of 9-12 battledays and thus, with two battledays a week, lasts about 5-6 weeks. At two battles a battleday, this means a campaign features a 18-24 battles in total.
Terms
The term campaign is also used as replacement for dates when talking about the history of the tournament, for example "we did this in the first campaign" instead of "we did this in June 2006".
The termn ViE#X is often used to make a reference to a certain campaign, with X standing for the number of the campaign. When talking about ViE's precedessor BFE, the term BFE#Y is used, where Y stands for one of the 24 campaigns of BFE.
Variations of these terms are great in numbers, such as ViE 1, ViE1, VIE1, #1 etc. The most "official" version of this is probably ViE#1, but the # symbol is sometimes left out on the Wiki due to technical reasons.
