The box on the left shows the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry division's Commanding Officers lineup prior to the first battleday of ViE Campaign 10. CinC was MajorD. Like all CinCs, his role was to select the General (Baditude), to help in assigning the maps for his territories and determining their value in points and to generally oversee the Allied Army in this campaign. General was Baditude. As divisional commander, he oversaw all officers, non-comissioned officers and soldiers of the PPCLI. He was the primary field commander. He also selected all remaining COs. These were, from highest to lowest: Colonel Priv, who was designated as Personell Officer. Promoted to Brigadier General after 2 battles and Major General after another 3. Lt. Colonel Loki, the Administration Officer. He resigned due to technical problems prior to battleday #3. Major Netzsicherheit, who headed the strat team as Intel Officer, later promoted to Lt. Colonel, then Brigadier General. Captain Moondogg was in charge of the division's 1st Battalion, the Moose. He was made Major after Loki resigned and Lt. Colonel after day #5. Further promoted to Colonel after day#8. Captain Dizwed was in charge of the second battalion, The Huskies. He was made Major after 8 battles. Captain Rambo was in charge of the third battalion, Crazy Omega 2. He was made Major after 8 battles.

The PPCLI had a lot of Junior Officers in Lieutenant or Warrant Officer-type ranks. The highest ranking two of these for each squad are also listed in a box on the left.

The squad structure is further described below.

Note that all Officers (except CinC and General) were intended to be promoted a maximum of two ranks during the campaign, eventually making room for novice Officers on the lowest rank levels (Lieutenants and Captains). For this purpose, the Canadian ranks used by the division featured the maximum possible number of General ranks: Brigadier General, Major General, Lieutenant General and General.

Structure

The PPLCI was further divided into three squads, the Moose battalion, The Huskies battalion and the Crazy Omega 2 battalion. The Moose battalion was the division's elite unit, The Huskies the main offense squad and the Crazy Omega 2 battalion formed the defense line.

1st Battalion - Moose

The first battalion was led by Captain Moondogg, who was made Major after battleday#2. For organizational reasons Officer Candidate ToRb replaced Moondogg as leader of the Moose Battalion, with Moondogg becoming a Staff Officer responsible for Medals, among other duties. ToRb was later made Captain. The Moose Battalion formed the elite unit of the PPCLI, and its soldiers were personally selected by Moondogg. History

Formed in 1914, the Princess Patricia's have had a long and illustrious history as one of Canada's premiere fighting forces. Made up mostly of seasoned veterans from the South African campaign, and from virtually all other forces of the UK. The PPCLI initial strength stood at 1,098 of which 1048 were transferred from other units. The Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry is quite a long name for everyday use so many of the variations that have been used include; PPCLI, Princess Pat's, PP's, Pip-pip's. Members of the regiment prefer the term Patricia's. The Princess Patricia's name came from the fact that LCol Farquhar wanted the name of the Duke's youngest daughter, Her Royal Highness Princess Patricia of Connaught (she readily agreed). The Light Infantry came about because the units Captain, Captain Gault, thought it gave the name an irregular feeling.

World War I

The Patricia's were the only Canadian forces to enter the combat theatre of Europe in 1914 with it's joining with the 27th British Division of the 80th Brigade. The 27th landed in Europe on 21, December 1914. Poison gas, fighting from ditches and bomb craters marked the PPCLI's participation in the battle of Frezenberg on the 8th of May, 1915. December 22, 1915 saw the PPCLI join with the 3rd Canadian Division as a unit of the 7th Brigade. November of 1918 saw the No. 4 Company enter the town of Mons, and shortly after the German surrender and the Armistice signing. Early 1919 saw the return on the regiment to Canada and it's demobilization. During the battles of Passchendaele and Parvillers three Victoria Crosses were awarded.

World War II

Exactly, to the day, 25 years later, the PPCLI had been mobilized for active duty and sailed from Halifax due to disembark in England. For three years they trained and provided coastal defence, after which they set sail for combat in the war in Italy. Landing in Sicily with the British Eighth Army, the Patricia's fought from Sicily, up the boot of Italy until the end of the war in Italy in March 1945. From Italy the Patricia's were the first allied forces to reach Amsterdam in the drive to liberate Holland. The battalion remained in Holland until the end of the war. The Patricia's fought along side the Loyal Edmonton Regiment of Edmonton - the former 49th Battalion, and the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada of Vancouver.

After the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the Japanese surrender on 15, August, 1945, the Pacific Force was disbanded. The following month on the 2nd, the battalion was reformed and renamed the 2nd Battalion,

Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, Canadian Infantry Corps. The remaining battalion in Europe was demobilized in October of that year. Battle honours and medals earned during their two years of service in Europe were: 8 Distinguished service orders, 12 military crosses, 2 MBE's (Member of the British Empire), and 6 Distinguished Conduct Medals. Thirty-five individuals were also mentioned in Despatches.

Korea

The Forgotten War. Not forgotten by the PPCLI. This war saw them earn the United States 'Presidential Unit Citation' along with Australian and U.S. units. The battle of Kapyong Valley, a major offensive by the Chinese pushed the Australians from their position and threatened to overcome the US forces in the path to soul. The fierce resistance by the PPCLI was a decisive force in the saving of the entire Korean peninsula. Members of the PPCLI served in Korea until the end of hostilities on the 27th of July, 1953.

Afghanistan

In February 2002, the Regiment deployed approximately 700 troops to Afghanistan as part of the Canadian contribution (Operation Apollo) to Operation Enduring Freedom. The Regiment also deployed troops as part of the International Security Assistance Force.

In March 2002 during Operation Anaconda, a five-man sniper team led by MCpl. Graham Ragsdale from Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry registered more than 20 kills and set the new world record for farthest combat kill with a rifle. Cpl. Rob Furlong set the record by firing a shot from a .50 cal McMillan Tac-50 sniper rifle that killed an al-Qaeda soldier at a distance of 2,430 metres (over 1.5 miles). The US Army awarded the team members the Bronze Star Medal for their actions in combat.[1] The shot surpassed the long-standing previous world record of 2,250 metres (over 1.39 miles) set by U.S. Marine Gunnery Sgt. Carlos Hathcock during the Vietnam War.
